Anybody who has been part of the local music and film community in Winnipeg knew Jonah and knew his hard efforts in keeping the community alive and vibrant. It’s a tragedy somebody so young , so engaged with the arts and just so darn nice was taken away from us. This was a devastating loss.

It is with heavy hearts that we learned of the passing of a long-time UMFM volunteer today. Jonah Nepon, who had taken a hiatus from hosting and programming On The Air to battle cancer, lost that fight Sunday morning. Jonah’s contributions to the Winnipeg music scene went far beyond his radio show though - he was a champion of emerging local acts and a strong supporter of independent touring acts alike and provided them all opportunities to play under the Ghost Town MB banner at various venues in the city. He also released a small number of 7-in. records on his own imprint. Winnipeg has lost a true champion of new sounds and a passionate, kind-hearted soul.
Funeral will be held on Monday March 4, 1:30 p.m., at the Congregation Etz Chaim 123 Matheson
